Ilene Frazier McHone

Ilene grew up on a farm in Bourbonnais, Illinois. She graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in 1974 with a B.A. in Elementary Education. After teaching one year in a Chicago suburb, she moved to Indianapolis. While teaching school in Indiana, she met her husband, Michael. They married in 1979 and have two married sons, Jay and Ryan. Jay and Koryn live in Carmel, and Ryan, Tiffany, and grandson Brayden live in Fishers. .

Being raised on a farm in a family of seven, cooking and baking were daily routines. Ilene’s interest in cake decorating blossomed in high school, when she began decorating cakes for her family and friends. By the time she finished college, she was making wedding cakes for her friends. Ilene chose not to work full-time when her boys were young and she continued to hone her decorating skills. She worked part time in two cake shops for six years, and during this time entered many competitions in Indiana and Ohio. She won many awards, sweepstakes and Best of Show awards. Then in 1995 she opened Classic Cakes. Ilene now spends a major part of her time managing the business, but helps in all phases and still does some decorating.

Outside of the store, Ilene enjoys church activities, reading, watching her grandson, and retreating to the Smoky Mountains. When she watches television, it is usually HGTV or The Food Network. She and her husband enjoy raising their three dogs and spending time with their family.

Ilene is a member of ICES, Retail Bakers of America, and National Federation of Independent Business.
