At Classic Cakes, we know the feeling: you’ve gotten the overwhelming desire to bake. You’ve seen a cake, or a pie, or a dessert that you have fallen in love with, and it’s time for you to try your hand at it. Baking is an age-old tradition and lifelong passion that you will only get better at with time so there’s no time to start like the present.
Before you jump into the beloved world of baking, there are a few tips and advice you should keep in mind.
Here’s what to remember:
There’s nothing wrong with beginner recipes.
Nobody bakes like a professional on their first day — it’s going to take time to learn how, and guess what? You’re going to make mistakes. So start off slow with a few beginner recipes, that will take you through some basic dishes in a calm, productive manner. Our recommendation: peanut butter cookies!
Get to know standard measurements.
Know the difference between a tablespoon and a teaspoon? How to convert an ounce to a liter? Or have the right measuring cups for what you’ll need? Before you get started baking, you’ll want to learn how to measure—which is arguably one of the most important keys to baking. This shouldn’t take long, though; there are a few online tutorials you can watch to know your way around the kitchen.
Buy the supplies.
If you have a recipe you want to try first, give it a read and ask yourself: do I have everything I need? If not, hit the stores and stock up on some standard baking supplies. Because you don’t want to find out mid-baking that you don’t have what you need.
We here at Classic Cakes always love to hear about new bakers —it reminds us why we got into this business in the first place. If you are looking for the perfect cake for a birthday party, wedding, graduation, or other event, don’t forget that we’re here to help. Contact us today!
