Ilene Frazier McHone
Ilene grew upon a farm in Bourbonnais, Illinois with her parents and five siblings. She graduated from Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, Illinois. From there she moved to the Chicago suburbs and taught school. Ilene then moved to Indianapolis, Indiana to continue her teaching career. She met her husband, Michael and together they raised two sons, Jay and Ryan. They are now the proud grandparents of three grandsons and four granddaughters.
Ilene began cake decorating as a hobby while in high school. The love of sugar art continued to grow and she began competing in cake competitions, and winning! Eventually she decided to leave the world of education and pursue her passion. Ilene worked for two different cake shops, then in 1995, launched Classic Cakes. It has grown from a one woman operation to a thriving business with twelve employees. Classic Cakes has won many local, state, and national awards for their expertise in the world of sugar art and their work has been featured in local and national publications.
Ilene enjoys reading, watching Food Network, and HGTV, working in her flower beds, spending time with her family, and loving on her grandchildren.
Sarah Miller was born in Idaho and her family moved to Indiana when she was eight years old. Sarah graduated from Westfield High School and attended IUPUI. She began decorating during her years in 4-H. She came to us while she was in college and began working for part-time. Eventually she became a full-time employee and is now our longest term employee. Sarah specializes in creating sculpted cakes and wedding cakes.
Sarah has always loved horses and has volunteered at stables. She now owns her own horse, J.J. Sarah also is an accomplished photographer and has traveled extensively photographing horse competitions. She has photographed in Lexington, Kentucky at the Rolex Three Day Event several times. Sarah has also photographed at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto Canada, the Pam Am Games in both Toronto, Canada and Guadalajara, Mexico, and the World Equestrian Games in France. She also loves to read and write science fiction.
Shan grew up in Speedway, IN but graduated from Thornton High School. She attended Ivy Tech and graduated Cum Laude with an Associates Degree in Culinary with a specialty in Baking and Pastry. Through American Culinary Association she received her certification as a Certified Pastry Culinarian. Previous culinary experience included working at Centerplate Catering at the RCA Dome during the Colt’s season. Shan came to Classic Cakes as an intern, started working part time, then became a full time staff member.
Shan is married and has two children and four grandchildren. Shan enjoys her cat and her two dogs. Her hobbies include Nascar, photography, and reading. She enjoys watching Diners. Drive Ins, and Dives, CSI, NCIS, and Cupcake and Cake Wars.
Aleena grew up in Eastern Ukraine and spent some years in an orphanage. She was adopted by an American family at the age of 14. She came to us at the age of 18 to become an apprentice so she could learn the art of cake decorating. Aleena picked up the craft very quickly and has become a full time employee of Classic Cakes. She helps with cake orders, decorates cakes for over the counter sales, and does our dishes. She is a mastermind at organizing and helps
Jen grew up in Winamac, Indiana with a brother and a sister. She graduated from Winamac Community High School. She attended IUPUI and earned a degree in Tourism, Conventions, Meetings, and Event Planning. Jen came to us in 2013 as our Office Manager. She oversees the telephone, e-mails, Facebooks messaging, files and tracks orders, does billing, meets with customers, and makes all of our many lists to keep us all organized. She also is the lead in all the Bridal Shows we do several times a year.
Jen has a daughter and enjoys anything Disney, reading, movies, and spending time with her family. She enjoys the company of her two Italian Greyhounds. Her get-a-way places are the pool and the beach.
Jenna was born and raised in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She graduated from Ivy Tech Fort Wayne in 2011 with a degree in Baking and Pastry Arts. She then moved to Indianapolis. Jenna worked in a cake shop on the south side, then joined Classic Cakes in 2013. Jenna helps in ordering supplies, occasionally bakes, and decorates party and wedding cakes. She is also part of our dependable delivery staff and is out on Saturdays carefully getting beautiful wedding cakes safely to their reception sites.
Jenna has a daughter. She loves to cook in her spare time.
Susie grew up in Liberty, IN and graduated from Franklin Township High School She attended Ivy Tech in Indianapolis and received a degree in Culinary Arts in Pastry and Baking. She did her internship at Classic Cakes. Susie went on to work at St. Vincent’s Heart Hospital, but works a few hours in the evening helping us with our ready-to- go cakes that customers can just walk in and buy.
Susie enjoys spending time with her family and friends, couponing, shopping for bargains, and playing Pokemon. She has a cat named Thessa.
